The story takes place in Shanghai before liberation. Dark clouds of war loom, and the Japanese are rampant. Japan's female spy Matsumoto Kawako (played by Wang Qian) instigates the ruffian head Sha Kun (played by Chen Guodian) to sabotage the student movement. Elementary school teacher Lin Ruolan (played by Zhao Xueqin) and officer Long Er (played by Hu Jun) help the students defeat the thugs. Matsumoto Kawako is infatuated with Long Er and suggests exchanging Sha Kun for him; will Lin Ruolan agree to this...?
