In a modern urban environment filled with haze, coldness, and rampant evildoing, the hardworking insurance agent Mark (played by Daniel Wu) has been living with his mentally ill mother (played by Kwai Yin Hung) for many years. To help his mother move into the best retirement home, Mark works hard to earn money, even resorting to perjury to protect his position. However, one misstep leads to eternal regret; the act of perjury comes to the attention of a mysterious figure, who not only steals the savings from his account but also forces him to follow their instructions over the phone. During this ordeal, Mark reunites with his high school first love, Jessy (played by Yao Chen), who works at the bank. Unbeknownst to them, Jessy is also caught in the mysterious person's trap, intertwining her fate with Mark's. Following this, Mark also gets entangled with the domineering gang leader, Tai (played by Simon Yam).
