Months later, the U.S. Marine Corps, acting on intelligence, discovers Sergeant Nicholas Brody (played by Damian Lewis), who has been a prisoner for nearly nine years, in Afghanistan. The returning Brody is welcomed home as a hero. Meanwhile, Carrie is reassigned by the CIA to work domestically and is convinced that Brody is the soldier who has defected, prompting her to conduct an undercover investigation. Brody learns that his wife Jessica (played by Morena Baccarin) has fallen in love with his friend, and in a fit of jealousy, he develops a relationship with Carrie.
