Among this group, there was a medic who was unwilling to pick up a weapon. His name was Desmond Doss (played by Andrew Garfield), from Virginia, USA. At the outbreak of the Pacific War, the frail Desmond volunteered to serve as a medic to save lives. However, due to his childhood and family background, he long refused to handle firearms and was therefore willing to be court-martialed for refusing to bear arms. After many twists and turns, Desmond ultimately arrived at Hacksaw Ridge with his comrades. Amidst the gunfire, countless soldiers fell in an instant.
