Once upon a time, there was a fallen scholar named Liu Yanchang (played by Zheng Peipei), who, after failing in his pursuits, was already dejected and lost. Walking alone in the wilderness, he was filled with trepidation. In a moment of panic, he came across a dilapidated temple, which housed the statue of the Three Sacred Mothers holding a precious lotus lantern. In the temple, he spoke to the statue and even daringly wrote a five-character quatrain on the wall. As Liu Yanchang fell asleep, the Huashan Sacred Mother (played by Lin Dai) manifested in the temple. The Sacred Mother admired Liu Yanchang's handsome features and, upon seeing the poem on the wall, felt an awakening of human emotion. After numerous trials and challenges, Liu Yanchang finally became husband to the Three Sacred Mother. Their celestial and mortal union was a remarkable tale but it violated the heavenly rules. The Sacred Mother's brother, Erlang Shen, led an army to besiege her, locking her in Mount Hua. Years later, Liu Yanchang's son, Chenxiang (played by Lin Dai), grew up listening to his mother's story and embarked on a legendary quest to save her by splitting the mountain... This film is adapted from a Chinese folk myth and is also the posthumous work of the famous actress Lin Dai.
