In 1974, a girl named Claire Campion went missing and was ultimately murdered. Soon after, a pale-faced boy named Mike confessed and was sentenced. It all seemed to come to an end, but now a similar case has arisen, making people aware of the abnormality of an old case that has plagued them for years. On one side, lawyer John Pigott (played by Mark Addy) takes on Mike's case, preparing to appeal; on the other side, officer Maurice (played by David Morrissey) begins to reexamine the old case.
